What a nice estate find! An Aubusson image of a royal 17th century hunt!
Since 1960, the artisanal studios of Editions d'Arte de Rambouillet have handcrafted elaborately detailed limited versions of antique museum-quality Gobelin and Aubusson tapestries, from French feudal to Italian Renaissance to Bourbon styles.
Each tapestry is silk-screened by hand, color by color, as many as 17 to 20 passes. Thus, each tapestry is one of a kind, even when numbered. This is #3 in its production edition. The 40"x60" face is silkscreened on linen canvas to include a selvage framing border, handstitched onto a professional backing and labeled for origin details. Steel hangers are sewn into the chocolate linen back panel to distribute the weight.
The scene is "La Traque", (an Aubusson original in a private collection) of a hunting scene of French 17th century royalty. Colors are rich, clarified by the numerous layers individually screened on. The entire printed piece is finally "set" by modern UV technology.
This previously owned piece is in good condition, no fading, has not been in sunlight. Nice condition (small clean tear on reverse backer lining corner, no hanging/weight issues); production date unknown but 3.70 implies 1970. Please enlarge and review the pictures, ask questions prior to purchase.
