Reproduction Glassware 1930s - 1990s
L. G. Wright Glass Company
started as a glass reseller, purchasing “seconds” from manufacturers for resale. The owner and founder Lawrence Gale (Si) Wright quickly realized that there was profit in the demand for antique pressed glass and glass inspired by old patterns, and so decided to sell reproductions. Wright initially purchased and used original glass molds, but soon started to make his own molds inspired by old patterns. As much as 90% of Wright's glass was made using moulds commissioned by them. Production of glassware was outsourced other glass companies, including Fenton, Fostoria, Viking, Morgantown, and Mosser. This business model worked well for many decades, although Wright did run afoul of Frank M. Fenton who refused to produce Custard glassware using moulds from which the Northwood trademark
had not been removed . This trademark was altered
and became known as the "wobbly W". The L. G. Wright Glass Company went out of business in the late 1990s.

Antique Condition
means that
there may be
discernible minor wear from usage and/or nesting (stacking)
. This wear will be mentioned and/or highlighted with its own photo
if extreme
. Because production conditions in the early 1900s were dirty and dangerous, and because there was no "Quality Control" as we know it today, antique glassware may suffer from any or all of the following:
Air bubbles
in the glass that were not squeezed out during pressing.
Heat checks
which are internal rifts filled with air (which is why you can see them), usually from a burst air bubble.
Inclusions
in or on the surface of the glass, such as ash and cinders. Often found in the flames of vases and rims of bowls were it settled during pressing.
Strands
of undissolved colorant (usually in green glass).
Straw marks
which are lines
in the glass caused by premature solidification where the molten glass was
snipped from the gathering rod with cool metal shears when the mould was full; lines also formed on the surface during the cooling process.
Tool marks
from implements used to form the edge or influence the shape.
Mold issues
related to filling and release such as incomplete or malformed edges,
rough seams, extra glass at seams; webbed, incomplete or pulled edge points.
Cooling issues
such as
uneven legs, slanted stems or a bowed base (causing rocking), surface lines and heat checks.
Production issues may be undesirable in the extreme, but they do not qualify as "damage" and will be found to some degree on nearly all antique glassware. Issues of wear will be left to your discretion.
Contemporary Condition
refers to modern glassware which is relatively free of the production issues found in antique glassware, due to modernized machinery, advances in glass making chemistry, and quality control. Even so, because modern Carnival Glass is generally still hand-shaped, hand-painted and/or hand-iridized, each piece is technically a one-of-a-kind, and you may still find a minor production issue from time to time.
