SUMMIT ART GLASS CO.
Cobalt Blue Carnival Glass 4" Flute-Style Mini-Pitcher, in excellent undamaged contemporary condition.
Summit Art Glass
was started in 1972 by Russell Vogelsong and his wife JoAnn. They purchased molds one at a time until 1978 when they made a bulk purchase of 50 molds from Joe St. Clair of Elwood, IN.
Until mid May of 1984, Summit farmed out the pressing of glass into their molds, and then sold the finished product in a showroom attached to their house. They also sold their glass through mail order and whole-saled to dealers around the country. In 1984, Summit Art Glass began pressing glass in-house, and in a few short months purchased about 80 molds from the Westmoreland Glass Company, and several more from Imperial Glass, most of which were molds that Imperial had purchased from Cambridge Glass Company, when Cambridge went of business in 1957.
Modern Carnival Glass
emerged in the late 1960s, when the Imperial Glass Company, along with the Fenton Art Glass Company, revived the genre by
re-issuing
many patterns of their own and
reproducing
patterns from other makers whose molds they had purchased. The same process of spraying hot glass with proprietary solutions of metallic salts to produce iridescence was used on the new glassware. Modern glass however, due its hardness, accepted the metallic salt solutions in a different manner generally producing a "harsher" (some say gaudy) iridescence.
Contemporary Condition
refers to the lack of production issues which plagued antique glassware. Modern glassware is relatively free of those production issues due to modernized machinery, advances in glass making chemistry, and quality control. Even so, because modern Art Glass is generally still hand shaped, hand-painted and/or hand-iridized, each piece is technically a one-of-a-kind, and you may still find a minor production issue from time to time.
Combined Shipping
is offered for both domestic and international shipment of multiple purchases. All items are bubble wrapped and cushioned with peanuts; no tape is used on the bubble wrap. Cartons are
labeled GLASS or FRAGILE, and
shipped in one business day; if I'm away then ASAP upon return.
All shipments are insured. International shipments will travel via USPS Priority Mail International for insurance and tracking purposes. The declared customs value may include the shipping charge, depending on your country's import policies.
