    DAHLIA
Mosser White Contemporary Carnival Glass Reproduction 4" Tumbler, in excellent undamaged contemporary condition.
Although the reproduction Pitchers in this pattern were made using the original Dugan molds, the tumblers were made from new molds and have only three flowers; the original antique tumblers have four.
    Modern Carnival Glass
was introduced to America in the late 1960s, when the Imperial Glass Company, along with the Fenton Art Glass Company, revived the genre by re-issuing and reproducing many patterns of their own as well as patterns from other makers whose molds they had purchased. The same process of spraying hot glass with proprietary solutions of metallic salts to produce a microscopically-thin layer of metal which bonded to the glass on a molecular level was used to iridize the new glassware. Different salt solutions and multiple sprayings influenced the color and intensity of the iridescence, however modern glass accepted the metallic salt solutions in a different manner due its hardness, generally producing a "harder" (some say harsher) iridescence.
    Contemporary Condition
refers to the lack of production issues which plagued antique glassware. Modern glassware is relatively free of those production issues due to modernized machinery, advances in glass making chemistry, and quality control. Even so, because modern Art Glass is generally still hand shaped, hand-painted and/or hand-iridized, each piece is technically a one-of-a-kind, and you may still find a minor production issue from time to time.
