    Description

    1920’s vintage Wooden Ship Model
    Japanese (?) Destroyer
    “Special Type” FUBUKI (?) class
    Destroyer 1/1200 scale: 1” = 100’
This is a model of an unknown Destroyer of the 1920’s, but I believe to be a rendition in anticipation of the building of the Imperial Japanese Navy “Special Type” or FUBUKI Class of 20 Destroyers laid down from 1926 and completed 1928-1933.
The FUBUKI class was a radical design when launched, and outclassed destroyers of the British and American navies at that time.
They set the standard for Japanese Fleet Destroyer design into World War 2.
Like the FUBUKI, this model is fitted with three twin 5” turrets, and three triple 24” torpedo tubes.
The difference is that the 2
    nd
turret is mounted just aft of the funnel, while the FUBUKI as built were mounted on the aft deckhouse superimposed over the third turret.
The FUBUKI’s were originally designed to have two twin 5” turrets, but the design was changed to three before building commenced.
The similarity can be seen when I took a damaged model, rotated the aft deckhouse, and mounted the mid turret on the “Y” position, it is configured just like FUBUKI.
While did the maker build it this way?
This came from a “wargame” set box containing 46(+?-many empty slots)) US WICKES/CLEMSON Class and 20 of these models. I may surmise that if this set was built in the mid-twenties, the secrecy of the then current build may have led the model maker to mount the turret as the individual 4.7” guns of a previous class (MINEKAZE) were.
No other destroyers had been built by any nation with superimposed turrets aft at that time.
These models are all Handmade, and individual models may vary slightly in appearance.
Any way you like, this auction is for sale of the depicted model, in all likely-hood over 90 years old, of a formidable, but not “known for sure” design.  The last picture denotes a similar model from the batch in which the turrets were switched as in a FUBUKI (it was in pieces).  This model is not for sale
This model is of a generic “Special Type” Destroyer class circa 1920’s as anticipated to be built.
She was 388 feet long, 34 feet wide and of 1,680 tons displacement, and was capable of speeds up to 35 knots. These ships were armed with six 5”guns, one 3” AA gun and nine 24” torpedo tubes.
She had a crew of 197 seamen and officers
This model was built by an unknown modeler as part of a large collection of like models.
I believe these were made in the 1920’s in the United Kingdom based on the box the collection was housed in, the other models in the collection, and that some of the named models in the collection were scrapped starting in 1930.
The ship model is hand painted and detailed and sold as was, with minor repairs such as straightening masts only.
This model is in 1/1200 scale and is approximately 3 7/8” long.
This is a waterline hull version and comes painted.
These are highly detailed scale models made for the Adult collector.
    THESE ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN
